I have been trading since 2012. That’s what I do, full time. Lot of people think you build Your strategy and you are good for life. It’s not how it goes. You need to change your strategy all the time and sometimes your strategy can work really well and sometimes you could lose money. After trading passively for about ten years (I'm 29/male) and semi-professionally for 2-3 years, I recently (December 2013) left my full time job to trade stocks full time. I trade only US equities, on my own (not with a brokerage or a prop firm, 100% self-employed) and trade a mix of day trading and short-term (2 day to 1 month) swing trading. I quit my job, not to pursue day trading, but because of some issues at work. I didn’t have a backup plan, just my savings. I knew I was going to be quitting so I had saved up for a while. I had messed around with stocks before but I figured now that I can dedicate my full attention to it, now would be the time to get into day trading. Full-time stock/options trader for 19 years. When I went back and calculated it, if I had simply held the stocks for that time period, I would have made about triple that because of trading fees and missed gains when I wasn't holding the stock. Some people utilize day trading for a living, while others just trade for a few hours a day to bring in some extra income. One of the questions I get asked a lot is, “when is the right time to make the leap to full-time day trading?”
